Steps to Achieve Success in Mathematics
· Always assume that mathematics is fun and easy
· Always be happy to learn mathematics
· Understand the concept and basics of mathematics
· Always do extra exercises
· Don’t give up easily when unable to solve mathematics problems
· Always ask when you do not understand
· Realise the completion of homework is only for your own good
· Solve past years PMR questions

Problem Solving Tips for Students

1.    Accept the problem
· Accept the challenge to solve unfamiliar or difficult problems.

2.    Understand and interpret the problem
· Read the question carefully several times and understand the key words.
· Identify what is given, what is the unknown and what the conditions are.
· Draw the diagram, make a model or act it out.
· Describe the problem in your own words.
(This steps involves reading, identifying, understanding and observing)

3.   Plan a solution strategy
· Search for information to relate relevant data to the unknown.
· Use strategies such as:
· Guess and check with logical thinking.
· Simplify the problem, use tabulation or look for a pattern.
· Think of a related problem.
· Use a diagram or a model.
(This step involves critical and creative thinking skills).

4.    Carry out the plan or the solution strategy
· Apply the strategies and monitor your progress.
· Check each step carefully.
· Read the question again to make sure that you are on the right track.
· Avoid getting stuck in one method for too long, try another method.
· If you’re still stuck, take a break and read selawat 3 times. Do something              different and come back to the problem later.
(This step involves action to solve problems with the chosen strategy).

5.    Look back or recheck the solution
· Reflect, extend and seek improvement
· Check the result (Is it reasonable? Does it satisfy the given condition?)
· Check the solution. (Can I do it in the different way?)
· Improve on the method used.
· Extend the method.
(How do I solve the problem if some of the condition are changed?)
(This step requires students to evaluate the effectiveness of the solution strategy).

Advice to candidates
· Understand the basics mathematics concept
· Do lot of revision on Form 2 and Form 3 topics because a lot of Paper 2 questions are from Form 2 and form 3 topics.
· Always do drilling in order to master certain skills.
· Assume that mathematics is easy and get interested in it.
· Try to answer correctly and don’t get confused with the method shown.
· Read the questions carefully and understand it well.
· Don’t waste time writing an over extended method for just a simple answer.

Obstacles to success in Mathematics
· Assume that mathematics is difficult
· No appreciation and love towards mathematics
· Unable to grasp mathematics concept
· No self confidence
· No determination to attempt
· No effort to do extra exercises

Tips to answer Examination Questions
· What does the question requires?
· What do I need to find or calculate?
· What formulae should I use?
· Did I come across this type of questions before?
· Is my answer logic?
